HISTORIC WILBUR
With unlimited recreational possibilities, community
pride, beautiful scenery and rich history, our corner of Lincoln County is a
great place to live and work. Nestled in the vast wheat fields of
Eastern Washington, our small communities offer a safe and quiet environment
for young couples with children or retirees alike. As people around
our state look more and more for the quality of life rather than the
quantity of life, they discover that we offer a place “where everybody knows
your name”.
The largest community here is the Town of Wilbur, made
famous in the 1800’s by a colorful character with the name of “Wild Goose
Bill”. The town celebrates its history and its pioneer spirit each
June during Wild Goose Bill Days with lots of fun for all ages. Wilbur is
complete with a beautiful nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, football and
baseball fields, jogging track, swimming pool, ice rink, historical museum
and airport with 3800 feet of paved and lighted runway.
If the great outdoors is what interests you, you’re in
the right spot. Just a few minutes to the north of Wilbur and Creston is the
pristine Lake Roosevelt, a Mecca for boaters, fishermen, campers, water
skiers and beach combers. The warm water and hundreds of miles of
sandy beaches are perfect for all types of outdoor recreation.
The primitive wooded wilderness area bordering the lake provides acres and
acres for cross-country skiing, hiking, horseback riding or just a pleasant
walk among the tall pines. Just over the hill from Almira is another
recreation paradise in Banks Lake (an offshoot reservoir of Lake Roosevelt)
and the Coulee Dam area. Here you can try your luck at the casino,
tour the gigantic Grand Coulee Dam (subject to nationwide security alerts),
do a little shopping or whatever suits your fancy.
All in all, the opportunities to live, work, relax, or
just have fun abound in our little corner of Paradise. We hope you
will come and let us share our good fortune with you. You’ll be glad
you did.
